Apple iOS 27: All the New Features Coming in 2026, Release Date, and More

Apple’s WWDC 2026 keynote delivered major updates across its platforms, with iOS 27 taking center stage. The company focused on refining daily experiences through thoughtful design and performance boosts while introducing a next-generation Apple Intelligence architecture. The star of the show is Siri AI, a dramatically more capable and conversational assistant. Enhanced child safety tools, creative AI features, and smarter apps round out the release. iOS 27 arrives this fall on iPhone 11 and later devices.

Expanded Child Safety Features for Peace of Mind

Apple introduced powerful, intuitive tools grounded in expert research with the American Academy of Pediatrics. Parents can create Child Accounts with age-based defaults, use Ask to Buy and new Ask to Browse for websites, and benefit from expanded Communication Safety that now detects gore and violent content. New Time Allowances for Entertainment, Games, and Social Media come with recommended daily limits, while flexible Schedules help keep school time focused. Screen Time received a complete visual redesign.

Siri AI: The All-New Conversational Assistant

Siri has been completely rebuilt with Apple Intelligence at its core. The new Siri AI understands personal context, on-screen content, and broad world knowledge. It handles rich back-and-forth conversations, complex requests, and multi-step tasks across apps. A dedicated Siri app lets you review conversation history synced via iCloud. It also features more expressive voices, major dictation accuracy improvements, and seamless integration on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch, and Vision Pro.

Visual Intelligence Brings Context-Aware Help

Point your iPhone camera at anything and Siri instantly understands and acts. New Siri mode in the Camera app delivers information and suggested actions like nutritional insights for food or splitting a bill with Apple Cash. Visual Intelligence also works on Mac via keyboard shortcut, iPad screenshots, and Vision Pro by simply looking at objects. It combines on-device spatial models with powerful Private Cloud Compute for private, accurate results.

Next-Gen Creative Tools in Image Playground and Photos

Image Playground received a powerful new generative model running on Private Cloud Compute for photorealistic images and endless style transformations. You can edit photos using natural language or touch to circle objects, moving, resizing, or enhancing them. In Photos, Clean Up is significantly improved, a new Extend tool adds breathing room or fixes horizons, and Spatial Reframing lets you adjust composition after shooting by virtually repositioning the camera while preserving scene consistency.

Apple Intelligence Powers Smarter Apps Across the Board

Apple Intelligence transforms daily apps. Safari automatically organizes tabs into topics, offers “Notify Me” page monitoring, and lets you describe custom extensions in plain English. Passwords can auto-update weak credentials securely. Messages, Mail, and Calendar gain context-aware suggestions and natural language event creation. The Home app groups notifications intelligently and summarizes camera clips. Shortcuts now builds automations from simple descriptions.

Refined Liquid Glass Design for a More Personal Look

Apple refined last year’s Liquid Glass design after listening to user and developer feedback. A new slider now lets you adjust the effect from ultra-clear to fully tinted for better readability and personalization across apps. Toolbars became more uniform, sidebars expand edge-to-edge with restored color icons, and every window uses a consistent tighter corner radius. App icons also gained layered Liquid Glass for sharper, more premium appearance in the Dock and Home Screen.

macOS Golden Gate Completes the Picture

macOS Golden Gate brings the same Liquid Glass refinements, performance gains, Siri AI, and Apple Intelligence features to the Mac with desktop-optimized experiences. Spotlight now integrates Siri conversations, system-wide context menus let you query files or images, and the larger screen shines for rich multitasking with Siri. Design consistency improves with uniform toolbars, edge-to-edge sidebars, and sharper app icons.

Privacy-First Architecture and Fall 2026 Release

Apple Intelligence runs on a new hybrid architecture using on-device models and Private Cloud Compute, ensuring your data stays private and is never stored or accessible to Apple. A deep collaboration with Google helped create the latest foundation models while maintaining Apple’s strict privacy standards. Developer betas are available now, public beta arrives next month, and the full release lands this fall on iPhone 11 and later, plus compatible iPad, Mac, Watch, and Vision Pro models.
